Ratha Saptami: dates, muhurat and meaning.
The next Ratha Saptami is on Saturday, 13 February 2027. The date is computed from the classical panchang for Delhi (rule: classical festival table — tithi prevailing at local noon). Below are the Ratha Saptami dates for 2026 and 2027, the day's shubh muhurat windows, and what the festival celebrates.
Ratha Saptami dates
What is Ratha Saptami?
Ratha Saptami symbolises the sun mounting his seven-horsed chariot for the northward journey. It is the year's foremost Surya observance after Makar Sankranti.
The rites are sunrise rites: a ceremonial bath as the sun rises, arghya (water offering), and Aditya Hridaya recitation — so the timing of sunrise matters more than any puja window.
Muhurat on Ratha Saptami
Ratha Saptami rites happen at sunrise itself. For anything else begun that day, use the Abhijit Muhurat above and steer clear of the day's Rahu Kaal.
