What is Varalakshmi Vratam?
The vrata is said to have been taught by Shiva to Parvati and by Lakshmi herself to Charumati. Its promise is the eight-fold wealth — the Ashtalakshmi blessings of prosperity, courage, progeny, victory, knowledge and more.
Being weekday-anchored (the Friday on or before Shravana Purnima), the date moves with both the tithi and the weekday, which is why some years' calendars differ by a week.
